Dr Dave Bryon is the former Managing Director of an international low cost airline (bmibaby). He is now an established speaker, presenter, event host, and comedian. Dave also appears regularly in the media commenting on topical airline and aviation news stories. He has a PhD in Earth Sciences from the University of Liverpool, and is represented by all the leading speaker agencies in the UK.
Dave is regularly booked for conferences and corporate events where he provides a fascinating insight into the aviation industry and shares his 8 C’s for running a successful business.
Running an airline has its fair share of ‘ups and downs’. Dave has weaved these into a unique and funny after-dinner routine that is perfect for corporate audiences.
A heated discussion with his daughters (who questioned his ability to make people laugh), has resulted in spin-off career as a comedian, awards evening host, and charity event MC.
Dave was born and raised in London and then Lancashire. He studied Geology at Liverpool University and went on to complete a doctorate in Earth Sciences. He moved to Myrtle Beach in America in 1996 to take up a position at Coastal Carolina University.
He returned to the UK in 2000 after accepting a position with British Midland Airways (BMI). Dave was part of the senior team that setup the low cost carrier BMIbaby which launched in 2002. He served as Commercial Director and Managing Director. The airline grew to 21 aircraft based at 5 UK airports carrying over 4.5 million passengers a year. The whole of the BMI Group was sold in 2012 to the AIG Group (British Airways).
Dave now has a successful media career that includes an after-dinner comedy routine (based around flying), business keynote presentations, awards evening host, and MC for charity events & auctions. His business presentation focuses on his own 8 ‘C’s of running an airline, which, he argues, apply equally well to all businesses and organisations. These are Compliance, Competition, Cash flow, Cost Control, Challenge, Change, Communication, and Customer Service.
He is represented by all the leading speaker agencies in the UK, and has performed across Europe & the Middle East including Moscow, Dubai, Kuwait and Hull. Dave has worked with an impressive list of clients including Accenture, Barclays Bank, BP, Sun MicroSystems, The FA, Leicester Tigers, Chevron, Deutsche Bank, RNLI, Airbus and Burton Albion (who he supports avidly).

I have been running this dinner for the past 13 years over which time we have had some very good speakers but only 2 who I could say we’re truly outstanding. The first was Garry Richardson of BBC Sport and the second was Dave Bryon. All of the feedback has been exceptional. A great performance and thank you for working the auction.
Richard Gray, Institute of mechanical Engineers
I wanted to say thank you to Dave for his speech and hosting our awards dinner. In short, he was absolutely brilliant. David was the first on stage to kick off the awards evening which is not the easiest time to “WOW” guests however he had the audience in stitches within seconds of his performance and continued in delivering the awards seamlessly.
Lucy Baker, Director, DSA Annual Awards & Dinner
Thanks for doing such a great job, both hosting the awards and the speech after dinner. It was well received by all those I spoke to after the event. You’re a hard act to follow – so we have had to hire an astronaut to host the event in New York next week and I’m already wondering how we can maintain the standard next year!
Richard Bayliss, Smiths Detection Group Ltd
We loved having you – thank you for providing such great entertainment as well as running the awards part of the show for us. You made sure that we finished on time and were the perfect host for last night. So a very big thank you from all of us, you really did a terrific job.
Antonia Carew, IHS Jane’s International Awards
You did a great job on Thursday night David. It went down very well, with a number of people specifically mentioning your slot as the highlight of the night – many thanks!
David Black, President, CIHT West Midlands
BIG THANKS TO YOU! Feedback from the event has been that this was the best yet. You certainly went down very well. Your Cabin Crew safety briefing was absolutely hysterical. Many thanks, and well done.
Elisa Dix, Sun Microsystems National Partner Awards
Thank you again for your excellent presentation and facilitation at our Conference on Saturday. I think that’s the most productive sessions we’ve had, and also one of the most fun ones. We had an excellent response from members, and you should rightly be proud of your presentation skills.
Simon Forrester, Chief Executive, Association of Interior Specialists
Just to let you know David Bryon went down a storm on Saturday, everyone thought he was brilliant. His handling of the forum in particular made the event. Can you suggest someone similar for next year – although David will be a hard act to follow.
Jane Cook, Operations Director, AIS
Thank you very much for a great presentation, many people are saying you were the highlight of the 3 day conference – it was pitched just right, with a balance of fact and more importantly humour (especially on the final day).
